Specifying Your Logs’ Structure

Logs are produced by many different kinds of software. TrafficReport needs to know what format your log is going to be in. If you know the name of the software that produced your log, this is fairly easy. From the Server Software popup menu, select the name of the software that produced your log, and you’re done.

If you’re unsure what software produced your log, then select one of the “Generic” options in the menu, such as “Generic NCSA” or “Generic Extended.” In the Sample Log pane, a sample log will appear. The Your Log pane displays a snippet from one of your Logs. If the panes show Logs that are in a similar format, then try running a report. If the report is empty, or the Logs in the two panes appear to be different formats, then try another of the “Generic” options.
